Week 3: Building, Learning and Starting Again
This week, our first trainee pharmacist rotation is well underway. It has been great to see the trainees settling in, building confidence and putting their learning into practice.
We have also advertised a new Band 7 opportunity—another important step in strengthening the team and developing future pharmacy leaders.
At the Academy
The final touches are being made to the 2026 SJT Preparation Workbook, ready to launch this Friday. It has been designed to help future trainee pharmacists approach the Oriel assessment with greater structure, confidence and clarity.

I am also bringing together a team to develop an app supporting trainee pharmacists throughout their foundation year—from structured learning and calculations practice to clinical questions and ongoing development.

A Personal Reflection
My wife recently had an operation in the private sector, which gave me an intriguing glimpse into how another part of healthcare works. My initial impression? Simple processes, clear communication and a strong focus on efficiency.
Could I work in the private sector one day? I am not sure—but it certainly gave me plenty to reflect on.
Finally, my training plan for Ibiza in September 2026 has officially been drawn up. After a long absence, the early-morning #DadHours are being resurrected.
Let’s see how long the enthusiasm lasts.
Till next week
George
